Just Riding Along Show Page

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

The normal crew is together for a show filled with listener questions about suspension. Andrea starts the show off with cliffhanger, Matt has a big bike on loan, and Kenny is loving his Stumpjumper. This is a great, fun show that runs on the long side due to tackling a ton of tech about suspension. If you ride rigid or your eyes glaze over at the mention of low speed compression – this may not be the show for you.

SHOW DONATIONS

-Chris Harrod of California gave $5 with note: Thanks for all the effort you guys put into the show. I know how much work goes into recording a podcast weekly. -Chris – From Northern Californiaasdf
-Logan Mullen of Ohio gave $10 with question: Hi friends! I’ve been listening to every show for about a year now and am finally got around to saying thanks for being awesome. I also have a questions and a comment about my 2017 Diamondback Release 3. Comment: a listener recently asked about the carbon Release (I think the 4C and 5C replaced the Release 3 in 2018), and I wanted to add my two cents. I love my Release 3 except that the paint scratches really easily. The wheel set is DB house brand but I have had absolutely no issues with them in a year of riding, and the rest of the spec is awesome for the money. Question: I just had the Guide RS brakes on this bike bled for the first time by my LBS because the brakes got really spongy, like levers almost touching the bars, after one season of riding straight from the factory. The bleed helped a little but they still feel way too spongy. LBS said they could call SRAM for me but they weren’t sure what the problem was. Have you ever encountered this problem with Guide RS brakes? The LBS doesn’t do much high end mountain bike work, but I went to them because they are a block from my house. Maybe I should call SRAM myself, or maybe get them bled again at a shop that sees more mountain bikes and hydraulic brakes? Lack of shop support is one of those drawbacks of buying a direct to consumer bike I guess. Never change, Logan from Ohio (yea it’s not Salida but the riding here is actually a lot better than you might think!)
-Jonathan Kidwell of Maryland gave $25 with note: If I had a time machine, I would go to the future and have a smile on my face because of all the amazing Matt rants I was lucky enough to hear. Keep up the good work and thank you all for the honest assessment of what’s on the market.
-Jarid Colucci of New Jersey gave $100
-Braden McGuire of British Columbia gave $25 with note: This is for Andrea to buy the most powerful Marijuana edible she can find, then eat it right before recording a show.

LISTENER QUESTIONS

-Allen G needs more Leadville Recap and wants to slap his stamp of approval on DVO suspension.
-Zach from Phoenix needs pointers on setting up his Fuel EX shock and fork.
-Ryan from Florida loves his new Trek Stache 5. Love at first ride, or nicest bike he owns?
-Scott H from Utah has question about what it means to tune a shock. He needs to get his wife an SB100 Beti but with a regular shock tune.
-Aaron from the Twin Cities needs a fork.
-Braden from the land of maple syrup loves Shimano but is always bottoming out his shock.

Just Riding Along Show Page

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

The show starts off with a long winded discussion about what is a cocktail, what is a mixed drink, and the robot uprising begins. Tune in to hear the difference between them and how The More You Know thing maybe worked (probably not).

SHOW DONATIONS

-Brian Clark of Connecticut gave $25
-Jackson Payer of Georgia gave $100 with note: “Dear Matt Andrea and Kenny, My buddy introduced me to Mountain Bike Radio this spring on a bike trip. I have listened to all of your episodes this year and am slowly working my way back. Your show is by far my favorite on MBR. Matt your rants are great. I love the fact that the show is completely extemporaneous. Anyone that knows me, knows that I love a great rant. While slightly crude at times, it comes across clearly that you are all really a good ethical solid bunch. I am currently stuck in South East Georgia with lots of flat sand. But we are within a few hours of great riding. I currently ride a Kona Unit, 2x10, with a Fox 32, Velocity Blunt 35s, Hope hubs and BB, and just ordered a PNW dropper, because I know you all approve of droppers on hardtails. Those details are totally irrelevant to my question, but I would get a boner if my email got read on MBR, so I had to put the bike in there haha. If I didn’t mention it already - I fucking love the show. I have learned a ton from it, and I will listen as long as you two keep it rolling. A while back you bashed Squirt. I had a question about that and wanted to write you about it, and then last episode you said you had a squirt email, but it never got read. I want the low down on why you all hate squirt and also thinks this sort of segways into my one criticism – granted I don’t think you should change anything – but I think it’s worth saying anyhow. Things can be very trail specific. Just because something totally sucks in one area, don’t mean it’s always the worst option. That said, if the show didn’t have unadulterated bashing I would suspect you all sold out to some major corporation. So squirt. I ride in the sand and every chain lube under the sun picks up a ton of it and wears my chain to shit in seconds. Squirt applied correctly and allowed to dry, doesn’t pick up any grit. While it may not be the best lube under the sun, it does keep my chain from squeaking. I understand for something like tour divide, or wet conditions, were you need to apply and ride, squirt doesn’t work for shit, and that seemed to be the context you mentioned it in. But I love the stuff for sandy conditions. Ok rant away. I want to know why I am full of shit about squirt. Technical details please! -Jackson with the orange unit”
-Mark Vail of Colorado gave $10
-John Gulledge of Colorado gave $50 with note: “Hey Matt, "What did the one Les say to the other.." Great to race with you at Silver Rush and see you at the Leadville 100.”

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Auk is back after a little time away and the guys dive into the usual conversation. Nathan shares his latest ride fantasy, which is a contentious current topic among mountain bikers. Tani shares some stories from a recent Kona event, which includes some riding in Whistler and at Squamish, and his weird dance contest buddy.

Then they discuss two listener questions. Hollis asks about cornering, so they get into a discussion about cornering and get into some thoughts about drifting, traction, and practicing. Chase from BC is looking for some recommendations on helmets.

The Path guys welcome all of your questions and encourage you to send them an email with the subject “Podcast Question” to podcast@thepathbikeshop.com
