The X100 is the Ultimate Mountain Bike Race and Fat Tire Festival! For 2016, they have a venue change and the race starts and finishes at the spectacular Timber Ridge RV and Resort, just a few minutes east of Traverse City, Michigan. The race includes a 100 mile individual, 100 mile relay style 3 person team, 50 mile, and 25 mile race consisting of mostly twisting technical single track that winds in and out of county gravel roads, two tracks and fire roads.
Riders roll through the most beautiful terrain Michigan has to offer: deep woods and steep hills dotted with pristine lakes, streams and ponds. The X100 has some the most challenging sections of raw organic terrain and killer cross-country riding built by mountain bikers who have a passion for adventure, and – until now – known only by die-hard locals.

ABOUT THE EPISODE
Who manages Wilderness areas, and why? Since we, the local advocates, will have to establish relationships with these agencies if the Sustainable Trails Coalition is successful in their bid to change the Wilderness Act, we’ll need to understand who manages the land. A change in the Act could allow local managers to determine whether or not to allow bike access, so it’s more important than ever to be aware of who does what. This episode is a short primer on who and what these agencies are and what they do.
Plus, Drew adds in a rant about who should and shouldn’t make changes to trails.
If you or someone you know is in charge of trail projects or organizing work days for your group, Drew wants you to email him. Share your projects and when your work days are, and he’ll share that information in future episodes.

Phil and Ben discuss elliptical chainrings. Over the last few years, another generation of elliptical/ovalized chainrings has emerged. Many people are still turned off by the poor design of the Biopace chainrings of the 1980's-90's.
The designs have been redesigned and refined with current technology to maximize the mechanical advantage in many situations. With more riders going to one front chainring set ups, we may see more riders switching over to elliptical chainring options.
Listen in as Phil gives his engineering thoughts about elliptical chainrings and discussing power, torque, traction, mechanical advantage, and more.
